How it Works

The process is simple! It's important for dogs to keep a schedule when it comes to grooming. Their skin cells regenerate roughly every 28 days. Their grooming schedule should be on a similar time frame. The more regular the schedule- even just baths- the better they get to know the routine and the more comfortable they get with it!

Our Dog Grooming Process

  • Bathe

We will use products unique to your pet’s skin and coat-both shampoo and conditioner; if you have a medicated shampoo from the vet, we can use that too!

  • Dry

With added hearing protection, every pet is hand dried using a no-heat dryer at the most comfortable speed.

  • Brushing / Deshedding

This step will include using a coat-specific brush and comb. We will fully brush and fluff or de-shed based on your pet's coat type.

  • Haircut

If your pet gets a haircut, we will go through the details of this step together when we arrive for your appointment.

  • Nail Grinding

Smooth nails and make them as short as possible unless the trimming is all that is tolerated.

  • Ear Plucking

To pluck or not to pluck? We think education is the best answer to this question! Scroll down for more information!

  • Ear Cleaning

All ears are cleaned with a soothing, non-stinging ear cleaner unless they seem painful due to irritation and/or inflammation.

  • Nose Cream

Nose cream is not necessary for all pets. It’s like how not everyone needs hand cream! Not all dogs have dry noses, but the ones that do, we will make sure they get it!

  • Paw Cream

The healthier the pads, the better they are protected from the elements. Paw cream helps keep the pads moisturized and prevents cracking. It should just be a no-brainer!

  • Breath Freshener

Ok, so truth be told, many people like to get their dog’s teeth brushed when they get groomed. However, that’s the only time their teeth get brushed…that would be like skipping weeks between brushing your teeth. So instead of a toothbrush, we use a tasteless enzymatic brushless spray to help with the odor and plaque. It still has the same enzymatic properties as the toothpaste, but they tolerate it much better than the occasional brushing!

Ears: To Pluck or Not To Pluck?

This has been a career-long (17 yrs) question; still, there is yet to be a resolution! Many variables play a part in the weight of the answer. Plucking the hair causes micro-tears in the skin inside the ear canal. If there is too much plucking, is it possible that this can lead to too much inflammation causing an ear infection?

Some vets say yes. If too much hair is in the ear, moisture can build up. Could an infection also be caused by too much hair in the ear canal blocking proper airflow? Some vets say yes. So the verdict? I say pay attention to your dog and what you think works best for them. They are just like us, all unique! Sometimes you have to try something to find out what works!
